Code for Sustainable Homes

What is Code for Sustainable Homes?

Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) was developed by the Government in consultation with various industry bodies as a single national standard to guide the design and construction of sustainable homes. The code will compliment the system of Energy Performance Certificates introduced in June 2007 requiring all new homes (and subsequently all homes sold or leased) to provide basic information about energy efficiency.

Why should I have Code for Sustainable Homes?

Although voluntary, builders are being encouraged to follow the code as the Government are considering making it mandatory in the future. Many Local Authorities are already insisting that the code is adhered to for new homes if the development exceeds are certain number (approx four for many Local Authorities). It is mandatory for all social housing and for all new homes built in Wales.
