Sustainability & Energy Statements for Planning
Local Authorities often have their own Planning strategies and requirements, often exceeding the requirements of Part L.
For many, as part of the Planning Application, a Sustainability or Energy Statement is required, and this in turn may need to be supported with a SAP or SBEM calculation.
What do we provide?
We will write an Energy or Sustainability Statement and provide the indicative SAP or SBEM calculations as required by each Planning Authority.
Why use us?
- We have the experience in providing the necessary SAP and SBEM calculations, and extracting the information required.
- We have provided calculations and sustainability statements to meet many Local Authorities requirements, including BANES, North Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Plymouth & SW Devon, Mendip, Forest of Dean, Elmbridge Surrey, many London Boroughs amongst others.
- We understand what’s required, an in fact we helped both BANES and South Oxford develop their strategies!
- Competitive and Fair Pricing – No hidden fees, just transparent upfront costs
Heat Loss Calculations
To size a heating system from either a heat pumps or a boiler, a room by room heat loss calculation is required.
What do we provide?
- We undertake the room heat loss calculations either from the plans and specification if it’s a new build home or from a site survey if an existing home.
- The report produced will show the Peak Heat Load and Annual Heating Energy Estimate, Design Conditions used, a Space Heating load per room, and heat losses from the building fabric and ventilation losses.
Why use us?
- Our calculations are MCS approved and use the Elmhurst Heat Loss calculator tool.
- We belong to and are approved under the Elmhurst Energy Heat Loss Calculation Scheme.
- This is a particularly useful assessment to have alongside a SAP assessment or Retrofit Assessment
- If we have undertaken either the SAP or Retrofit Assessment, we already have much of the information required for the heat loss calculation.
- Competitive and Fair Pricing – No hidden fees, just transparent upfront costs.
Renewables Assessments
The Renewables Assessment assesses a home for the potential placement of renewable technologies, and gathers useful information for a potential supplier to use.
The technologies covered are:
- Solar PV
- Solar Thermal
- Ground source and Air source heat pumps
- Solar batteries
- Electric Car charging
- Biomass boiler.
Why use us?
- This is a particularly useful assessment to have alongside a Retrofit Assessment.
- Competitive and Fair Pricing – No hidden fees, just transparent upfront costs
We are part of the Go Renewables pilot scheme run by Elmhurst Energy in co-operation with the Energy Saving Trust. We are also part of the Complex to Decarbonise pilot scheme which is similar, but with a focus on Listed properties, solid wall properties etc.
Part O Overheating Assessment
Part O Overheating assessment looks at the potential for overheating in a new build residential dwelling.
It’s best undertaken at the same time as a SAP calculation.
We can provide the ‘simplified’ method. This provides an assessment of the buildings openable windows and doors, and glazing areas to meet minimum requirements for ventilation and to avoid summer overheating.
It does not consider any external or internal shading, or external elements to the building that may provide shading, for example other buildings. Therefore, its scope can be limited, however, in a postcode area where overheating is deemed a low or moderate risk, this method is low cost option that has been proven very successful.
For high-risk areas and for those that may fail the simplified model, and full DSM (Dynamic Simulation Model) would be required. We do not provide this but can recommend a good consultant.
Why use us?
- The Part O assessment is ideally completed at the same time as our SAP calculations as we are already working on your project and are ideally placed to continue with this work saving you time and money.
- Competitive and Fair Pricing – No hidden fees, just transparent upfront costs.
