SAP Calculations for Part L compliance
SAP calculations for Residential new builds, change of use, renovations and extensions.
What is a SAP calculation?
A SAP calculation is a desk top assessment to demonstrate compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations. Using your drawings and specification we will calculate the various information required for a Building Control submission.
A SAP is undertaken at design stage before any work starts on site; this proves to Building Control that what has been proposed meets the requirements of Part L.
Once the dwelling is fully complete, we revisit that initial calculation and update it with the final as built confirmations, and consider any changes that may have occurred, to produce the final Building Control submission. It’s as this time we also provide an EPC.
Why do I need an SAP calculation?
Put simply, you need a SAP calculation to obtain Building Control approval, for several reasons:
- A SAP calculation demonstrates compliance with Part L.
- This can be for new build, or an existing building undergoing renovation, a change of use or an extension added.
- A SAP calculation is sometimes required for an Energy or Sustainability Statement in Planning applications.
- Or it could be required for funding, like mortgages.
- And finally, an EPC is produced from the as built SAP calculation.
